Privacy Policy

Vigil (“we,” “our,” or “the app”) is a truck driver safety and navigation app developed by Synthax Codes SRL, registered as a Moldova IT Park resident (SRL) in Chișinău, Republic of Moldova.

We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how you stay in control.

Information you provide

• Driver name (optional) - displayed alongside your POI contributions and reviews. Not required to use the app.
• Vehicle dimensions & weight - used to calculate appropriate truck routes. Stored locally on your device.
• POI submissions & reviews - the details you provide (name, location, category, description), your ratings, and timestamps.

Information collected automatically

• Device identifier - automatically generated when you first open Vigil to create your account without requiring email or phone number.
• GPS location - used to show your position on the map, display nearby points of interest, and provide turn-by-turn navigation.
• Technical data - app version, device type, operating system version, and crash reports (via Firebase Crashlytics) to keep the app running smoothly.
• Usage analytics - anonymous app usage events and interaction patterns collected through Firebase Analytics and Smartlook to help us improve the app.

• Providing the service - showing nearby POIs, calculating routes, displaying the map, and delivering danger alerts relevant to your location.
• Community features - attributing POI contributions and reviews to users so the community can assess reliability.
• Location data is collected only while you are actively using the app. We do not track your location in the background unless you have explicitly enabled navigation mode.
• Vehicle information is stored locally on your device and sent to routing services only when calculating truck-specific routes.
• Improving the app - analysing usage patterns and fixing bugs.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not serve advertisements.

We use the following third-party services:

• Google Maps SDK - map display and geocoding. Subject to Google’s Privacy Policy.
• Mapbox - map tile rendering. Mapbox processes map tile requests which include your approximate coordinates and device information. Subject to Mapbox’s Privacy Policy.
• TomTom API - truck route planning and navigation. Subject to TomTom’s Privacy Policy.
• Firebase Analytics - anonymous usage analytics to help us understand how drivers use the app and improve the experience. Collects device information, app events, and general usage patterns. Subject to Google’s Privacy Policy.
• Firebase Crashlytics - automatic crash reporting to help us identify and fix bugs. Collects crash logs, device state, and stack traces. Subject to Google’s Privacy Policy.
• Smartlook - session recording and analytics to help us understand user interactions and improve the app’s usability. May capture screen recordings, touch gestures, and navigation paths. Subject to Smartlook’s Privacy Policy.
• Railway (hosting) - backend infrastructure where app data is stored. Subject to Railway’s Privacy Policy.

These services may receive your location data and device information as needed to provide their functionality. Each has its own privacy policy governing their use of your information.

• Your data is stored on servers hosted by Railway (PostgreSQL database).
• Vehicle dimensions and weight are stored locally on your device.
• All network communication uses HTTPS encryption.
• Accounts are device-based - no email or password required.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. Data is shared only with the service providers listed above, strictly to operate the app.

• Account data - retained while your device identifier remains active.
• User-contributed POI data - may be retained even after account deletion, as it forms part of the community database that other drivers rely on for safety.
• Technical data - retained in aggregate form for app improvement.

You can at any time:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate information (e.g., updating your driver name).
• Delete your account and associated personal data.
• Export your data in a portable format.

To exercise any of these rights, email contact@synthax.codes. We will respond within 30 days.

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have additional rights under GDPR, including the right to object to processing and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

Vigil is designed for professional truck drivers and is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at contact@synthax.codes and we will delete it promptly.

Vigil does not track you across other apps or websites. We do not use advertising identifiers or participate in ad networks. Firebase Analytics and Smartlook collect anonymous, in-app usage data only - they do not track your activity outside Vigil.

Vigil is available in multiple languages (English, Romanian, Russian) and may be used internationally. Your data may be processed and stored in countries other than your own. By using the app, you consent to the transfer of your information to these countries.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through an app update or notification. The “Effective Date” at the top reflects the latest revision.

Continued use of Vigil after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
